Ms. Snipe: Two more mass shootings within 24 hours. Thoughts and prayers are not helping stem these acts of violence. How can those people who refuse to enact any meaningful gun legislation sleep at night?
Are they just too tied to the gun lobby and NRA and the funds it supplies to them? The country is falling into a pattern of killings that must not be tolerated. Most seem related to some of the hate groups our current president seems to embolden with his rhetoric. Yet most in his party are too weak to stand up to behavior of this administration. I find that disgusting.
Ms. Snip: How can anyone excuse these continuous mass shootings and not see the problem. People used to say, “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”
Ms. Snipe: That ‘fake’ old argument died with school children, church attendees, theatre goers, concert fans, shoppers, etc., etc., etc. Guns kill. That’s what they are manufactured to do. The automatic, semi-automatic, machine-gun type and those with bump stocks are designed to kill people – not deer or quail. They should not be available to anyone outside of legitimate military service members. All guns should be licensed. Hand guns, shotguns, rifles used for hunting should all be registered. Think of all the licensing required in today’s society – teachers, health providers, lawyers, fishermen, drivers, day care providers, therapists, dentists, beauticians, and more too numerous to mention. And this ugliness is not the only amoral behavior of this administration.
Separating families continues. Cages for children as well as for asylum seeking adults continues to be the norm. Fear at home is becoming part of everyday life. Meanwhile BC continues to talk, about his ‘friends’ like Kim and Vladimir overlooking the missile firing which continues in North Korea, the massive arrests and suspected poisoning in Russia. He continues to get mired in trade wars which are hurting Americans.
Ms. Snip: I’ve started writing to my congressmen. I sometimes wonder if that does any good. Most of the time if I hear anything back from them it’s just a form letter which may or may not refer to the subject I was writing about.
Ms. Snipe: I’ve been writing for a long time. I have to believe that enough correspondence will motivate action. Unfortunately, the focus in Washington seems to be “get re-elected”. Nothing else seems to matter. When the campaigning starts almost a year and a half before an election, I wonder how anything can be accomplished. Of course, BC (Big Crybaby) started campaigning as soon as he took office. Why should I be paying for a narcissistic rabble rouser to make campaign stops all over the country. His speeches consist of self-adulation, demeaning his ‘enemy of the day, and stroking the egos of dictators.
Ms. Snip: What happened to the Republican Party. For years it was the party of family values and fiscal responsibility. Now we see tax cuts enriching the few, trade policies threatening livelihoods and the deficit expanding like balloons attached to a helium tank.
Ms. Snipe: When SCOTUS said a corporation was a person, the money flowing into politics changed and grew and brought expectations of favors along with it. Then the “re-elect me” mentality took over. Too much power in too few hands. When one person can prevent discourse and vote in the Senate, he needs to be replaced. When one person displays childish, misogynistic, racist, narcissistic behavior he needs to be replaced. When that one person attempts to fill top positions with his own chosen “yes-men” – he needs to be replaced.
Wake up, Congress. Wake up, Republicans. Wake up, citizens.
