Ms. Snipe: I hope March can take us to spring. Egad, if the clock can ‘spring forward’ why can’t the season?
Ms. Snip: Exactly, I know just what you mean. This has seemed a long winter. While I love the look of fresh snow, it becomes tiresome very soon. The worst part is staying indoors a lot.
Snipe: I find myself agreeing with BC (Big Crybaby) in this instance. He proposed doing away with changing the clock twice a year by ending daylight savings time. I’m not sure of his reasoning for it but I believe the ‘time is right’ (excuse the pun). I seem to recall it was initiated to help farming families get the best use of daylight in the changing seasons and making it more possible for school age children to help with chores before school. If that was indeed the initial reason, seems a bit outdated now.
Snip: Is that the only agreement you have with him?
Snipe: Pretty much. And, I find that a number of Republicans have found their way by voting on the to reject the idea that we are in a National Emergency. I agree that there are immigration and border problems but that does not give BC the authority to reassign funds already approved by congress for other things.
AND, there is no constitutional justification for the president to do whatever he wants by edict (what I call an ‘executive order’.
I will once again be writing my congressmen thanking the ones who voted to stop the ‘National Emergency’ and encourage them and others to override the veto. We need change – yes. We need border security – yes. We do not need to declare eminent domain to take land from folks who have their homes along the border. We do not need to rob military and other entities to grab some money to build a monument to BC. There are better and more efficient ways to control the border and immigration.
Snip: Speaking of budget – when I heard BC’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year I laughed. I was still laughing and noticed that the people I was with were looking at me in horror. I thought it was an early April Fool joke. The tales this guy had spun about fiscal responsibility in the campaign were diametrically opposed to this budget. Taking funds from programs he promised to protect, raising the debt by an unspeakable amount of money. This was clearly an attack on the poor, the elderly, the sick and nearly everyone who wasn’t rich, white, powerful.
Snipe: Glad you saw what was happening. I am still trying to figure out why some groups support him and his misguided actions. I’ve heard that some Republicans – those up for reelection in 2020 – are afraid of losing votes if they don’t support the prez and the party. I find that more than disgusting. I think it is way past time for age limits (upper as well as lower ages), term limits (for sure the best way to clear out those who still believe that what was good in the 20th century still fits today. For people who believe that airplanes have gotten too complicated – that changes in technology should be ignored. Oh, who would have said something like that? Oh, yes. It was BC.
Today’s practice of – hiring, clearing objections for clearance and promoting your family members is just wrong. Just because some ‘advisors’ aren’t paid does not mean that nepotism isn’t being practiced. Wake up red members of congress. Do your jobs. Oversight does not mean overlook.
Snip: Wow, do you feel better getting that off your chest?
Snipe: A bit better. But there will be more. Hope you are still writing and calling your members of congress. Let your voice be heard. Let them know that every single vote counts and you and your friends do vote.
