Comments from Snipe

Hi Everyone, Snip is off this month so it’s just me, Snipe, sniping at things as I am prone to do. So – here we go with a few tidbits: 

Gov Landry – Louisiana:   “If you want to respect the rule of law, you’ve got to start from the original lawgiver, which was Moses.”  Wow, as I recall the story, Moses didn’t write those commandments, he just carried the stones. Anyway, the Gov is defying Constitution and previous decision of the Supreme Court. Orange man states  that he LOVES the Ten Commandments. Has he read them? Maybe it’s his bucket list of things to break. He’s got a good start on that bucket list.

 Trump allies hope to enforce the Comstock Act – the anti-vice act which bans mailing of obscene, lewd, lascivious, indecent, filthy or vile material. Hmmm -like  the Access Hollywood tape, or the articles about the behavior of elected persons. Have you been to a production of Beetlejuice lately? Did the audience behave? Who gets to decide what fits the categories? Guess who thinks they are the arbiters of decency. 

Have you read Hillbilly Elegy?  Shouldn’t it be banned? Oops, wait, it was authored by a MAGA cult member and prospective VP. A non-cult member once suggested a book for banning which contained: murder, incest, lewd behavior, hate crimes, kidnapping, etc. It wasn’t banned, it’s the Bible. You want your kids reading that kind of material? 

Do you have a felony on your record? Felons are prohibited from a number of different jobs and licenses in different states. The list here contains things prohibited in some or all states, sometimes by the nature of the crime. The prohibitions include:

The list goes on.

Hmmm – quite a variety of prohibitions. Notice that holding public office is listed but it is not one of those prohibited in all states. So, you can’t be a barber or a bartender but you can be President? Not sure that makes much sense.

Maybe we should feel better when we know that a certain candidate’s concerns include sharks, electric boats, water pressure in washing machines and showers – you know, the important things.
